History of the Warwick Football Academy Program
The Warwick Academy Football Club (WAFC), founded in 2001, with one boy's team at U8 and one at U10 age group. This Club was focused on football from Pee Wees (5 year olds) to Under 11’s. During the last decade, the Club has grown tremendously, establishing itself as one of the leading and most successful youth clubs in Bermuda. This has been achieved thanks to many volunteer coaches over the years, as well as parents assisting in multiple capacities.
In 2015 with the maximum amount of boy's teams allowed (2 in each age group) Warwick alongside with BHS set up and started a Bermuda Girls league. Its original teams were Warwick Academy Football Club, BHS and Bascombe Football Club. Matches were played across multiple age divisions at the three venues, culminating in an inaugural Girls Cup, which Warwick were able to win. The success of this league led to the introduction of girls teams into the end-of-season Kappa tournament and the commencement of a BFA run Girl's league which continues today. Warwick Academy and BHS executives playing a significant role in the setup of the leagues.
The number of girl participants across all age groups is now as large as the boys with the Warwick Academy Football Club very much a club for all ages and sexes.
In 2016 Warwick Academy (the School) and the WAFC entered into a partnership with Robin Hood Football Club to create the Warwick Archers Football Club (Archers) with the aim of offering a pathway from Under 13 to adult football. In addition, the programme was designed to broaden our school’s community reach, catering to the more competitive footballers as well as developing footballers in the older age groups. Like with the WAFC, Archers has also been very successful.
In the spring of 2023, a number of factors resulted in the two Clubs and the School engaging in discussions about a closer relationship to support the future ambitions of our footballers.
Under the name of the ‘Warwick Football Academy (WFA)’ a merger between WAFC, Archers, and the School took place for the upcoming 2023/24 season: registering with the Bermuda Football Association as one Club, and playing under one name, badge, and kit.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
